I was scheduled for surgery that autimn (I canceled it, but had already missed the sign-up date). Not to worry. I submitted this year’s illo as a gift to the comm.

6th December is St. Nicholas Day

It is also a staff member’s birthday. Argus Filch is not the only staff member who works with the Hogwarts House Elves. (Argus also gets a birthday cake.) Actually there are usually several cakes so everyone gets a piece, but for obvious reasons Hagrid gets one of his own. The Elves, who are fond of traditions, use Hagrid’s birthday as the official start of the season, and spend the time from the 6th, until the students leave for the term break dressing the Castle for the holiday.
